Edits and Pitches and Bloghops!

Hey, what's this? A real blog post from me? Surely not!

Here's the thing, I have barely paused for breath in the last few weeks. I've been doing a ton of editing work, and I LOVE it, but boy, it's tiring. One of the biggest reasons for me not blogging lately is that I've been reading all day long. When I finish work, my eyes just want to close. This is also the reason why I am SO far behind on reading all of the books you guys have published in the last few months. I need to spend some time soon sorting out my Goodreads list because I know for sure there are books missing that I want to read. Actually, maybe I will do this next....

The WIP I recently finished and haven't told anyone about yet (well apart from my CPs, of course) was on a"rest" because... well, based on the exhausting process of editing Game On, I have now realised that it's okay not to rush the publishing process. This new book feels special, and that's why I wanted to make 100% sure I'm happy with it before I put it out. *giggles* SO, last night I happened to see the #AdPit Twitter contest thing going on and as I never usually have anything to pitch, I figured since I did, I would. This was my pitch:

"One girl. One band. The publicity stunt from hell."

And, an agent favourited it, so I sent off a query and my first ten pages last night! Eeek! The pitch was made on a whim, so I'm not expecting miracles BUT I am hopeful. And scared. This whole query thing is new to me!

EDIT: Just received a very polite rejection letter - and that's totally fine with me! It's only my first rejection, so I'm pretty upbeat lol!

Also, I just mentioned that I've been editing Game On. I know I've mentioned it here before but it's all done now, and I'm just finalising covers and such. It's SUPER exciting, and it's also been useful in helping me prepare for Game On book 3! To celebrate the Game On re-launch, I will be doing a bloghop, stay tuned as the details will be coming soon!

Finally, I changed up my blog layout! I don't know how long I'll keep it, but I like it for now!

  1. So good to hear what you've been up to Kyra. I have not yet been able to find a good balance of my time management when it comes to blogging and writing. But I'm working on it! Big congrats on the pitch!! I'm excited to read what you have been working on :)

It's hard to find the balance, and I don't really know the secret either lol!

  5. Sounds like you've been busy! :) Revisions do have a tendency to draw you down.

I like your pitch, not surprised someone favorited it. Good luck with more pitching! :)

  6. Even if it was a rejection, you know that line can reel someone in - and that's cool!

  7. Way to be positive with the rejection. Developing that tough skin isn't easy. And your blog looks great!

  8. Love the font, black and red. The gray, not so much. Glad editing went well and can't wait for your re-launch. Rejection happens, just move on.

  10. Your blog looks great! Well done. :)

Very exciting stuff happening for you. My problem is that I take wayyyy too much time editing. But I don't see it as a problem. And yet I do have a real problem right now - not editing at all! Thankfully I am getting the spark back though. :)

I've also only ever had one rejection, solely because I've only ever submitted one thing - and it was also because of a request I got based on a one-sentence logline. :)

    1. Thanks!

Haha! I take a long time editing, too, but it's worth it in the end!

LOL, maybe these one sentence logline contests aren't such a great idea after all!

    1. Aww, thank you! <3

I doubt I will be so positive IF I query and get rejections again, but the first one didn't sting too much!

  13. Great to see you hanging around here! Like the new look, although I'm not sure why I didn't notice it when I was commenting on your next post yesterday... (Yes, I have mastered the art of time travel - are you impressed?)

  14. That is a cool one-liner pitch! Too bad you got a rejection, but at least it was polite :-) And only your first one, so there are many more opportunities out there!

  15. The publicity stunt from hell: you've got my attention. Look forward to seeing more. And I like the new blog look. Not sure when it changed, but I just noticed it now. :)

IWSG: Performance anxiety

Welcome to the August edition of IWSG, hosted by the amazing Alex J.Cavanaugh ! So, as most of you know by now - because I haven't shut up about it LOL - my first novel, Game On, has been released. The blog tour officially starts next week (YAY!) but I find myself becoming increasingly nervous. A blog tour not only highlights my book, but me. What if people don't like me? What if my guest posts suck, and everyone thinks I'm boring? If I can't engage people in 300 words on a blog, they probably aren't going to pick up my book. And then there's the "what happens next" question. I plan to make Game On into a series, which feels a bit arrogant of me. I don't know how many people are going to like the first book, should I really be planning to keep the series going? So far, Game On has actually been incredibly well received. I've had great reviews, so maybe I shouldn't worry about people not liking it, but what if Book Two isn't as goo
